This has to be one of the most uniquely amazing times to try to navigate the emergence of a new technology. Try getting a pulse on the tech industry’s take on AI and you’ll get everything between “AGI is here, prepare for post-capitalism” and “AI is slop and the bubble pop is eminent”.
Add to that posts from prominent CEOs of some of the highest funded companies that AI will ultimately wipe out 50% of entry-level jobs in the next 5 years or that AI will probably end the world.
With so many dollars invested in private AI ventures at huge valuations and stock prices so closely tied to companies becoming “AI-native” there is lots of hype coming from reputable sources that have obvious bias and financial incentives to play into a hyped up AI narrative. Add to this the new “AI Influencers” who everyday find something that “changes everything!”, companies trying to jam “AI” into everything (even when it doesn’t make sense), and it becomes dizzying to discern signal from noise.
On the flip side this technology is very obviously producing some truly amazing capabilities that would have felt like pure magic a few years ago. ChatGPT is incredible. Video, Image, and Voice generation is mind blowing. Claude code, Cursor…etc have practical applications that have improved the experience of writing code (well, depending on who you talk to).
There is definitely very real value being produced here.
But between all of the hype, doom, fear, greed, and fomo, how does one cut through the noise and understand what is actually possible with the next stage of this technology?
Well, I believe this a time to learn by doing. This is uncharted territory and I don’t think anybody really knows where this is all going. The best way to know is to do.
As such I’m going to build myself an Agentic Workflow Prototyping Platform. And from there will prototype out some agent powered workflows, exploring what is possible, and see if anything surprises me.
